My first foray into Drunk Elephant trying C-Firma Day Serum & B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum, 2 of the most popular serums. Drunk Elephant was created by Tiffany Masterson as an antidote to her skin issues and by removing certain ingredients and sticking to the ‘essentials’ that she believes skin need to be healthy.
C-Firma Day Serum
This is a vibrant, orange serum that is packed with antioxidants. With 15% vitamin C, ferulic acid, vitamin E, pumpkin ferment extract and pomegranate enzyme which firms and brightens the skin.
The serum itself is more of an oil-serum texture but absorbs quickly even on my combination skin. Drunk Elephant advises use in the morning (with addition of SPF on the top) but I have also used this on an evening and the oil texture works well with a heavier moisturiser. As l-ascorbic acid is best used right away, once you open the serum the clock is ticking! You can keep this in the fridge to help maintain its effectiveness (this is not essential.)
B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum
This is a lightweight serum with vitamin B5, pineapple ceramide, lentil/apple/watermelon complex to plump skin, reduce fine lines and brighten skin.
B-Hydra has a creamy gel consistency that instantly soothes and hydrates to help with dryness and fine lines. You can mix B-Hydra with other serums, in particular the C-Firma serum works really well. I found that layering with other products (as opposed to mixing together) does not cause any pilling and Drunk Elephant does encourage you to mix it up!
Drunk Elephant products can appear to be more ‘basic’ but the formulas really set them apart, free from the Suspicious Six (silicones, essential oils, fragrance/dyes, drying alcohols, SLS and chemical/synthetic sunscreens) these two deliver. All Drunk Elephant products have a shelf life of 3 years (1 year after opening) except for: C-Firma – 1 year (4-6 month after opening.) Drunk Elephant has had it’s controversies recently but the products do work well.
